ok.. topic of the day....

i'm inspired to write this as a follow-up to my previous entry about women. as sensitive an issue as it is, i will be blunt and straight-forward.

girls and women regardless of age have all at least once been abused by an authoritative figure in their life. more often than not, this figure will tend to be male (boys, guys or men). i understand what it feels like to be disciplined and told to show respect towards the men in my life. but where do you draw the line between discipline and abuse?

why is it that girls and women become victims of abuse by the very people they trusted and care about? i agree that one should respect the men in one's life as it is them that's supposed to protect one's self. but i definitely detest men that abuse women as a way of teaching them a lesson on 'discipline'. whether physical, emotional or mental abuse, to me its just plain wrong. i don't understand how some men can bring themselves to hit their wives, girlfriends, daughters. does the word 'shame' mean anything to them?

don't get the wrong idea. i'm not being a feminist. i'm just stating my opinion on the subject at hand. not all men are like that, yes that's true. but most of them tend to be like that. its the women that suffer in silence, refusing to breathe a word of it to anyone because they don't want to bring down the family name. in other words, they feel ashamed of it. should they be? was it ever their fault? no!!! of course not.. pointing fingers won't solve anything. a beating won't solve anything either.

no matter how much i love or care about the man in my life, i refuse to tolerate if he ever laid a hand on me (as in physically hurt me). i've seen it happen to some friends of mine. yet they still tolerate it. i just can't do that. i'm grateful that it didn't happen to me but i won't think twice if it ever did.....
